According to a recent survey by the financial advice website Motley Fool people in the UK spend almost twice as long planning for a holiday than they do arranging a mortgage.

This is a worrying if not entirely surprising statistic. The reasons aren’t hard to guess at; planning a holiday can be fun, idly flicking through holiday brochures contemplated where you’ll be spending your hard earned break from the daily grind will always feel less like a chore than considering the perhaps rather depressing state of your finances. Indeed, I’ve always found that there’s nothing quite like knuckling down to the nitty gritty of APRs and TARs to remind me that a holiday is long overdue.

Nonetheless, Motley Fool’s findings do seem to indicate that too many people are spending too little time addressing their personal finances. Here’s a rundown of the results:
